Candidate List update: two new substances added

On February 4, 2026 (slightly later than the usual schedule), the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published an update to the Candidate List. There are now 253 entries for SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern) candidate for inclusion in Annex XIV of the REACH Regulation.

The table below provides the identity of the new substances included in the Candidate List:

We wish to remind you that the inclusion of these substances in the Candidate List does not ban their use as substances on their own, in mixtures, or in articles.

However, their inclusion triggers specific legal obligations for companies:

• Articles: if any of these substances are present in articles in a concentration exceeding 0.1% (w/w), companies must comply with the communication requirements under Article 33 of the REACH Regulation and fulfill SCIP notification obligations.
• Chemicals: the presence of a Candidate List substance in a concentration >0.1% in substances or mixtures must be mandatory indicated in the relevant Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

It is therefore important to verify whether the new update to the Candidate List has an impact on products manufactured and placed on the market (chemicals or articles as well). It is necessary to cooperate with the supply chain, involving suppliers in product analysis, in order to best manage the compliance obligations set forth by the REACH Regulation and update Safety Data Sheets, declarations, or notifications, thus fulfilling customer information and/or ECHA notification obligations.
